New Public Governance

New Public Governance 

New Public Governance is a mode of governance which emphasizes cooperation between state and non-state actors to achieve policy objectives.

There are four key characteristics of New Governance:

1. Blurring of boundaries between state and non-state actors in tackling social and economic problems. This also includes a greater blurring of the roles and responsibilities of these actors.

2. Government no longer has the power or authority to simply impose on third parties. There needs to therefore be more collaboration between different actors.

3. Interdependence : (contacts in the community, financial resources, greater policy making capacity) There is generally a greater pooling of resources to meet policy objectives

4. The network of actors has a certain degree of autonomy and does not depend on government.
