Gender-based Analysis (GBA)

A process that assesses the differential impacts of public policies, programs and legislation on women and men in terms of their social and economic circumstances.

(Pal. Leslie. 2006. Beyond Policy Analysis: Public Issue Management in Turbulent Times, 3rd ed. Toronto: Nelson Education, p. 34-35.)

------

A process that assesses the differential impacts of public policies, programs and legislation (proposed or existing) on women and men in terms of their social and economic circumstances, as well as their relationships in key social institutions such as the family. GBA is designed not simply as an add-on to the analytical process, but is intended to be woven through each step and phase of policy-making.
